HOGAN 

These images are all from the same vineyard. These are Ancient Growth Zinfandel vines. The vines are well over 100 years old, stand about 6 feet tall and are as big around as trees.

 I discovered the vines in the winter of 2006. The vines were pruned with no shoots, just the vine, they looked dead. These giants with chunks literally missing  looked like they had stood the test of time. I went back in the Spring and sure enough there were green shoots, then before long there were grapes! I returned in the fall when I captured these images.

These ancient vines were a bit of history of the Napa Valley, a history that is quickly vanishing. I returned to this vineyard in the Spring of 2010 with the hopes of capturing the vines budding out. What I found was that the vineyard had been taken out.
