Dennis Hogan Photography
"Capturing the Valley"
~ Dennis Hogan ~

Delicate grapevines, framed by Photographer Dennis Hogan with immaculate symmetry, outstretch their
sinewy arms with disarming grace.  “I am humbled by the opulent beauty of these vines,” Hogan muses.  “Each leaf
glistens in the sunlight like fine stained glass.”

Recognizing and capturing overlooked treasures is Hogan’s specialty.  “By experiencing my photography,”
Hogan explains, “I hope that viewers learn to appreciate the natural splendor that surrounds them.  Too often we
rush through life without pausing to appreciate the intricate details of nature’s craftsmanship.”

The majority of Hogan’s catalogue features images of the lush Wine Country, where he has lived and worked
since 1972.  From sweeping panoramas to intimate close-ups, Hogan’s work captures the nostalgic spirit of Wine
Country and documents the evolution of a dynamic landscape. “I feel so fortunate to live in an area that’s more than
my home—it’s my muse.”

Hogan has been viewing life through the lens since the age of ten.  Like many visionary artists, Hogan honed his
craft through determined experimentation and long hours spent in the field.

“My work is about color and light,” Hogan reveals.  Although Hogan’s vibrant color elicits the initial coos of
admiration from viewers, his clean lines and voluptuous forms seduce viewers to lose track of time.

“My goal is to achieve a timeless image, one that isn’t dated by the hand of man,” Hogan explains.  “To capture
a timeless image, one must exercise both patience and speed.  The deft photographer must wait for the right light,
but once that moment presents itself, he cannot hesitate for even an instant.”

The good timing that has characterized Hogan’s career has yielded countless museum-quality images. Dennis
Hogan’s engaging prints may be viewed at the Blue Heron Gallery in Yountville, CA.
